Despite not being named Big 12 Player of the Year, BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa delivered an extraordinary performance, scoring 40 points. This remarkable achievement marks the second-highest individual score in Big 12 tournament history and sets a new record for points by a freshman in the event, surpassing Kevin Durant's previous record. This is Dybantsa's second 40-point game for BYU, having previously scored 43 against Utah in January.
