An exciting community initiative is set to take place at the Topeka Zoo, aimed at fostering safety awareness among families. Organized by Safe Kids Kansas in collaboration with the Topeka Zoo, the event titled "Safe Kids Day at the Zoo" will occur on Saturday, May 3. This annual gathering focuses on educating both children and adults about maintaining health and safety throughout the year. With a special emphasis on outdoor exploration this year, the event aligns with Governor Laura Kelley's declaration of May as Safe Kids Month in Kansas, promoting injury prevention strategies for children.
The importance of outdoor activities for enhancing physical and mental well-being cannot be overstated. Families are encouraged to engage with the natural beauty of Kansas responsibly. The day promises a range of engaging activities, including temporary tattoo booths and entertainment provided by Happy Faces Entertainment, the Kansas Ballet Academy, and the Topeka Cello Collective. Interactive educational resources will also be available for parents, complemented by an opportunity to explore the zoo.
More than 25 partners will host booths at the event, offering various attractions. Additionally, free bicycle helmets will be distributed, fitted by trained volunteers from 9 a.m. until noon. To ensure proper fitting, children must be present to receive a helmet, subject to availability of supplies and sizes. A significant contribution towards bicycle safety and motor vehicle occupant protection will be symbolized by a check presentation from State Farm to Safe Kids Kansas.
