Junghans, a brand frequently celebrated for its minimalist, Bauhaus-influenced designs, is now making a bold entry into the high-performance dive watch segment with its new Aquaris collection. This innovative series broadens the brand's existing Sport line, introducing four distinct models: the Aquaris Diver, available with either vibrant green or striking orange accents, and the Aquaris Sport, presented in compelling red or deep blue variations. Each timepiece in this collection is characterized by its substantial build and impressive water resistance, blending professional underwater functionality with a versatile aesthetic suitable for daily wear.
The Aquaris timepieces are encased in a generously sized, cushion-shaped stainless steel housing, reminiscent of compressor-style designs, measuring an imposing 46.9mm in diameter and 14.5mm in thickness. This robust construction, shared with previous Junghans sport models, underscores the collection's rugged nature. The case features integrated flank protection on the left side, safeguarding two screw-down crowns positioned at 2 and 4 o'clock. The lower crown, adorned with the iconic Junghans star emblem, manages time-setting and winding functions. The upper crown, distinguished by an etched fish school motif, controls the internal rotating bezel, which, typical for professional dive instruments, operates unidirectionally counterclockwise to prevent accidental extension of immersion time. The watch face is shielded by a sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective coating on both surfaces, while a solid caseback ensures water resistance up to an impressive 500 meters.
The Aquaris Diver models within the collection are engineered for optimal underwater utility. They feature a matte dark grey dial, enhanced with large applied hour markers and prominent hands, all generously coated with X1 Grade Green luminous material. This high-performance luminescence provides an intense green glow in low-light conditions. A distinguishing characteristic of these models is the inner diving scale, where the initial 15 minutes are highlighted in either green or orange, corresponding with the hue of the arrow-shaped minute hand.
Conversely, the Aquaris Sport references maintain the same robust technical specifications but present a refined, more adaptable aesthetic for general sporting activities. These models boast sunray-brushed dials, offered in vibrant red or profound blue, complemented by internal rotating rings in matching colors. The hands and applied indices also benefit from ample luminous material, ensuring consistent readability across various lighting environments.
At the heart of the Aquaris collection beats the Junghans calibre J830, an automatic movement rumored to be based on the Grand Seiko 9S51 and specifically crafted for Junghans by a Japanese watchmaker. This movement has been further customized by Junghans with proprietary modifications, including a unique gear-train bridge, rotor, and balance cock. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the J830 offers a reliable 48-hour power reserve. Furthermore, a protective soft-iron layer encircles the movement, enhancing its resistance against magnetic fields.
Each Aquaris model is supplied with a satin-finished stainless steel bracelet, equipped with a diver's clasp featuring two extension mechanisms: a 22mm on-the-fly adjustment developed by Junghans and an additional 26mm diver extension, designed to fit comfortably over a wetsuit. To further enhance versatility, an interchangeable synthetic rubber strap is also included. The Aquaris Sport Red model comes with a black rubber strap, while the Aquaris Sport Blue is paired with a matching blue strap. Both rubber straps feature a Junghans stainless steel folding clasp and quick-release spring bars, allowing for easy interchangeability.
The Junghans Aquaris Diver is priced at EUR 2,790, while the Aquaris Sport Red and Blue models are available for EUR 2,690. These sophisticated timepieces are scheduled for release in May 2026, marking a significant expansion of Junghans' offerings into the specialized dive watch market.
