This particular model, building on an aesthetic introduced last year, successfully blends traditional elegance with contemporary design elements, marking it as a distinguished addition to the brand's esteemed collection.
The previous year’s introduction of the platinum 6196, which served as a successor to the much-loved 5196, brought forth a fresh design language. It featured an opaline rose-gilt dial complemented by charcoal hands and hour markers, a combination that initially sparked curiosity and gradually cultivated admiration among watch aficionados. This distinct visual signature has now found its way into the 5227G-015, elevating its appeal. This specific Calatrava model, with its 39mm case, has historically been appreciated for its elegant size, offering a balanced presence on the wrist that many dress watches in the 36–37mm range struggle to achieve.
The updated Calatrava 5227G-015 showcases several thoughtful design enhancements. A fine black railroad minute track, adorned with subtle dot markers for every five-minute interval, frames the dial, drawing the charcoal-gray white gold “obus” hour markers slightly inward. These markers, with their faceted design, command a greater presence than their predecessors, and a doubled index at 12 o’clock further enhances visual impact. This movement, introduced in 2019, incorporates a stop-seconds mechanism and a more efficient 21K gold rotor, all exquisitely finished with Geneva stripes and perlage.
