Celebrated artist Yoshitaka Amano is launching an original anime venture, "Zan," which draws inspiration from his pre-existing dark fantasy visual project, "Deva Zan." This artistic endeavor, initially compiled into an artbook in 2013, will now manifest as a limited anime series. The journey of this project has spanned several years, with its origins tracing back to 2010 when Amano established Studio Devaloka, a film production company. Initially, the studio announced a 3D animated film also titled "Zan." Following a period of silence, the concept was reimagined and rebooted as a series in 2022. A recent press release characterizes the "Zan" anime as an epic dark fantasy that traverses time and space, featuring intense action, elaborate sword combat, and visually captivating heroes. The production aims to unite seasoned anime professionals under Amano's artistic direction to produce a top-tier animated work for a global audience.
Developed by Yoshitaka Amano Inc., the series boasts an impressive creative team. Masashi Ikeda and Toru Toshida are on board as animation directors, while Moriyasu Taniguchi will serve as the principal animator. Ryosuke Takahashi is handling the series composition, with Yuya Takashima contributing to the script. The art direction is a collaborative effort between Kunio Ogawa and Minoru Nishida.
